Long Plane Ride Survival Guide

The flight time from the United Kingdom to St Lucia can be a bit trying. Your air time from London to St Lucia is nearly nine hours if you’re traveling nonstop. This is no brief jaunt, but the luxurious all-inclusive destination awaiting you at Coconut Bay is well worth the wait. If you have a long plane ride ahead of you, use these tips to make your time in the air a bit more comfortable.

Look Ahead for Delicious Dining

Most airline providers have an online menu that will give you a peek at your in-flight dining options. Some even let you order days ahead of time to make sure your preferred picks are waiting for you on the flight. Check out your meal options well in advance so you know what to expect on the plane. If you can’t reserve a meal that you’ll like, make sure you have plenty of satisfying snacks and sandwiches with you so you’re not starving on the flight.

Stay Hydrated On the Way

Airplane cabins are notorious for their low humidity. Over the course of a long flight, this can become quite uncomfortable. Take bottled water with you and sip regularly to stay hydrated. Lip balm and a small travel-size bottle of hand lotion can help you battle the dryness as well.

Pack Cosy Comforts

Fill a carry-on bag with comforts for your flight. Our Facebook fan Colleen Larabie suggests comfy slippers and a polar fleece blanket. Make sure you’re wearing comfortable clothing so you can drift to sleep easily during the flight. Choose layers so you can add and remove them as needed to get to the right temperature.

Plan on the Plane

Our Facebook follower Viv Preston advises travellers to “Read a guide book about your destination and start planning everything you hope to see!” If you’re planning a special excursion like kitesurfing, you may want to pick up a book or magazine on water sports to peruse on the way, or read about St. Lucia landmarks like the Pitons so you know what to look for when you arrive. If you’re visiting during turtle season, reading up on these majestic creatures will help you get excited for your stay.

Pack carefully for a long flight to make sure you have everything you need. As Debbie Simmons commented on our Facebook page, “enjoy it…safely knowing that when you get off the plane your resort is literally round the corner!”
